dylan thomas book 001

I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas. I am at my mother's house enjoying the wood stove and the Christmas tree and all the chocolates. It's nice seeing all the family and hopefully I'll be able to squeeze a few more friends in while I'm here too. Hope you have had a good last couple of days where ever you are and I promise to come back to blog-land when I am back in Vancouver.

7 days of Christmas

joseph gifts 001

Joseph is at home with the cats this Christmas, while I am in freezing, snowy Edmonton with my family. Since we'll be missing each other I decided to leave him a present for every day I am gone. Lucky guy huh? First up: December 24, a plate of Christmas cookies hidden in the back of the fridge.

When I get back we'll have a holiday movie marathon and probably eat Indian food -- a second year running tradition.

Merry Christmas Eve everyone!

home for the holidays

kermodi xmas 002

Merry Christmas! I'm off to Edmonton in 15 minutes (yikes!) -- I hope I packed enough warm clothes. My suitcase is so heavy, I suppose that's what I get for gifting everyone books.

Thought I'd share some last minute Kermodi designs, I had my last official day there yesterday, but I'm sure I'll still pop in from time to time.

I'll check in from Edmonton, but just in case, I hope you all have a great holiday and a happy New Year.

the baking day

On Monday I had a few friends come over to help bake up a Christmas cookies storm and it was a great success! Okay so lots of the cookies came out "almost burnt" and we didn't have time to ice any of them, but other than that we had a good time. The kitten was social, we munched on nuts and crackers and drank a very nice mulled wine, prepared by Helena. Thanks to all the ladies who came, and sorry to all those that missed out. (next year!)

p.s I clearly forgot to take photos until the very end, so for that I apologize. I was too busy making sure nothing was going wrong!

cookie baking party

Remember my crazy cookie baking day last year where I baked a few holiday favorites all by myself? Well it's about to happen again except this time I have the help of a few wonderful ladies. I have to go get things prepped now, but I'll try to take photos throughout the day and of course of the finished products.

I lit the Balsam fir incense, I have croissants rising in the oven and wine mulling. (is mulling a word?)
Hope you all have a good Monday -- I'll be listening to Bing Crosby on repeat.

dawn 001

It's not quite the solstice yet, but I heard yesterday was the earliest sunset before things start to turn around, so that's something. Looking west towards the Georgia Straight the sky is a stunning mauve. We aren't always so lucky.

sit and have some nog

egg nog 001

Well hi. So I guess Christmas time gets busy, huh? I've been cleaning, cooking, wrapping, creating, and well, drinking egg nog. I love it, sorry if it grosses you out, I totally understand. I hope you're all enjoying the busy Christmas-prep time, I'll check in again soon, I promise.

writing it all down

I finally got around to writing some Christmas cards last night. I also roasted a chicken after work, for future use, cooked dinner, and made granola bars. Oh and I sent out an invite to some girlfriends to come bake Christmas cookies at my place on Monday -- now that many of them have confirmed attendance I have to hurry and clean the house and get some baking ingredients restocked in my pantry. Nothing like a challenge!

winter windows

kermodi window 001

This is about as festive as we get at Kermodi. The rest of the showroom is such a mess, I'm glad it's not too visible.

making music

music garland 001

Living with a musician has certain benefits, such as having access to music sheets that are no longer needed when I want to make Christmas garlands. Goodbye Michael Buble sheet music -- we never wanted you anyway. I'll have to show the finished product later because it's time for work!

top five food posts of 2010

Finally here are my top five food posts of 2010! I knew exactly which dish was going to make number one, but everything else was a little tricky to place. These are all dishes I had made for the first time and in each case they far surpassed expectations -- they are all incredibly tasty and if I can make them you can too! Here's to a new year of fantastic food!
