sharks > jets

listening to joseph's new record that he picked up at an antique store by the farm. it's fantastic -- every good part about west side story, without the horribly cheesy plot.

jake ryan

Sixteen Candles - Final Scene - Movie Ending - For more of the funniest videos, click here

i watched sixteen candles again last night and it was awesome.

i know that this movie has no real plot. and i know that the gorgeous jake has no real merits whatsoever but somehow even out of high school i can't help but fall for his fictional aloofness. i mean who didn't have a jake ryan in school? molly ringwald -- being annoying, but living the dream.

oh the calla lilies

now normally i'm not a calla lily person. take 'em or leave 'em. as far as cut flowers go i think a nice schwartzwalder or peach coloured calla can be nice -- if they are big enough to even be seen and if they are under $7 a stem. but this is rarely the case and yet people still ask for callas. "they are so elegant" really? i mean it's not like they are wearing a tuxedo or anything, they are just kinda - well - plain.
but this my friends, this is my newest addition to my overstuffed balcony. it is a plant and it grows calla lilies and it is beautiful. look at its leaves! look at its flowers! look at the leaves that are trying to be flowers! callas need a lot of sun, even direct sunlight is a-ok for them. so i may have brought this little one to its doom as i only get direct sun during the sunrise and sunset. also i have to raise the plant up high enough to get all the proper sun, which means it is far more vulnerable to the sixth-floor winds. still, i think we are off to the beginning of a wonderful friendship mr. calla and i, he providing my balcony with a nice splash of colour and texture, me providing him with the basic needs to conduct photosynthesis. even steven.

ms. blues harp

lately i've been talking a lot of nonsense about my desire to be the next greatest harmonica player in the world. i want to be some mix of little walter and bob dylan. this goal felt perfectly attainable to me as long as i kept talking about it. well my loving boyfriend, who was raised by parents who would encourage him to pick up an instrument, any instrument, went out and did just that for me. pretty darn sweet i have to say. joseph got me this beauty and a little instruction book to go with. i have a lot of basic understanding of music to catch up on. so far i have successfully played every note on the harp (inhaling and exhaling produce different notes -- who knew?) now i just have to get serious.

look who had a baby!

so you know my aloe vera plant that has been doing so poorly and keeping me up at night? the one with the weak and saggy arms and poor, brownish complexion? well it turns out she was just pregnant! -as joseph so kindly pointed out to me on mothers day. so now we are just making sure she gets lots of nutrients and rest and she seems to be doing a lot better.

ruby - the red peony

so this is what happens when you work four 12+ hour days in a row -- your peonies up and die on you. surely starved of love and attention they bled all over the table. there was simply no chance of talking my way out of it. luckily with the other ruby all it took was a little cuddling, a little tuna, a little sunbathing and she fully forgave my absent parenting.

my most sincere apologies

so obviously i would really like to be sharing all sorts of lovely things with you, especially before this dreaded mother's day weekend when i will have no time, but i can't. and my really good excuse is that i can't find my tiny little cord that connects my camera to my computer and lets me get all my photos up here where you can see them. i know. i'm basically saying i didn't do my homework because i couldn't find a pen. but it's true! so once i find the cord, which couldn't have wandered far, i'll show you beautiful photos with stories to go along.
